22. Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode Town Hall

A former Neoclassical country house belonging to the celebrated violinist Charles de Bériot, this building was bought in 1868 by the municipal authorities of Saint-Josse so as to house their new town hall. Between 1908 and 1911, the local council made radical changes in the Beaux-Arts style, led by architect Léon Jean Joseph Govaerts. The main façade is particularly remarkable thanks to the wrought-iron canopy over the entrance, the impressive central clock, the oculus windows in the roof and the central dome topped by a lantern. The interior preserves the perfectly restored original decoration with a monumental staircase and banister in wrought iron, large stained-glass windows and rich mosaics… Last but not least, the various reception rooms are adorned with wall hangings from the collections of the Charlier Museum.
