03. Former Grand Hospice

Arch. H.L.F. PARTOES, 1824-1827

SATURDAY 28 & SUNDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2024

Rue du Grand Hospice 7, 1000 Brussels

Time: 45 min

The Grand Hospice was built by the architect Henri Partoes between 1824 and 1827 on the site of the former Grand Béguinage convent. Meant to house paupers and the sick, the building is laid out around two identical courtyards lined with arcades that recall cloisters. After completing the Hospice, Partoes devoted himself to redesigning the surroundings and created an important urban ensemble where symmetry and order reign.

The visits are accessible to wheelchair users.
