Hap House

SATURDAY 14 & SUNDAY 15 OCTOBER 2023

Meeting Point

Chaussée de Wavre 508, 1040 Brussels

Duration of guided tour: 40 min.

The Hap House, an exceptional example of bourgeois and notary life at the beginning of the 20th century, was built in 1859 for François-Louis Hap. Located on a family property of approximately three hectares, it was extended and transformed in 1905 by the architect G. Thoelen at the request of Félix Hap, mayor of Etterbeek. In contrast to the sober neoclassical façade, the interior is richly decorated and has been undergoing a thorough restoration since 2019. The private part consists of a Louis XVI salon, a dining room decorated with rustic paintings - on marouflage canvas - and a veranda of Art Nouveau inspiration. In the public rooms, you can admire a period counter and the former notary's office in Flemish Neo-Renaissance style, punctuated with Art Nouveau and oriental elements.
